Beach hair and skin: sun skincare routine tips for the summer months
We're well into summer and most of Australia is hitting the beach. Sunscreen is the cornerstone of good sun skincare habits, of course, but our hair and skin can still get neglected after a day in the harsh summer sun. Make sure that your hair and skin is in tip-top shape by making sure you have good before and after sun care routine in place.
Your ideal before-sun skincare routine
If you get regular facials that exfoliate your skin (such as microdermabrasion or peels), it's best to give these a miss if you plan to spend all day in the sun. Microdermabrasion and peels sensitise your skin to the sun, and while this is all right on an every day basis, all-day sun exposure will increase your chances of developing wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Make sure your moisturising game is on point for your skin and your hair. Sea and sun exposure zaps moisture quickly, so keep applying moisturiser twice a day and ensuring your hair stays conditioned. Comb Leave In Conditioner through your hair for an extra boost of hydrating protection. Don't wait until you're outside to apply your sunscreen. To get even, proper coverage, your sunscreen needs to sink into your skin for approximately 20 minutes.
After-sun skincare: soothing and protecting
Firstly: if you get sunburnt throughout the course of the day, don't throw in the towel. Make sure to apply sunscreen regardless, as you don't want the fragile skin underneath your peeling burns to get damaged. Once you get back indoors, it's time to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise.
